Pipefitter, San Antonio, Texas


The role

FluidOil is seeking a Pipefitter to work with all pieces of process equipment including pipes, valves, instruments, pumps, heat exchangers.

This contract role is based in San Antonio, Texas.

Responsible for

  • Carrying out a range of tasks, working within our VHTL demonstration plant daily, following established procedures
  • Adhering to the work schedule, following the engineer’s designs
  • Accurate timekeeping
  • Carrying out any other duties which are appropriate to the post as may be reasonably requested by line manager
  • The Company has a health and safety policy, which outlines its responsibilities as an employer, and the responsibilities of its employees in respect of health and safety; all employees need to be aware of this policy and comply with its content.

Working relationships

  • Ability to work within and contribute to a team
  • Daily contact by telephone, or in person in the plant, and with other team members in San Antonio and overseas

Key results areas

  • Following the engineer’s blueprints and designs
  • Equipment service, repair and/or test completed as scheduled to departmental and Company standards
  • Meeting performance targets, when applied

Reports to

  • Overall: Supervisor

Key tasks

  • To diagnose faults diligently; ensuring that the quality of work meets the highest standards and that targets are achieved
  • Follows engineering instructions and drawings
  • Reading and Understanding Blueprints; following plumbing and safety code – it is imperative that pipefitters can read, interpret and understand building blueprints so that the work is carried out safely and correctly
  • Checks correct part numbers are used before assembly
  • Fabricates pipework to standards required
  • Strength – pipefitters must be able to carry heavy pipe and use heavy tools
  • Cuts pipes/casing to size using cutting equipment in preparation for assembly
  • Grinds ends of casing in preparation for welding
  • Carry out precision measuring/testing of equipment following clear set procedures
  • Ensure general plant tidiness; maintain tools, plant and equipment in a clean and workable condition
  • Ensure the general security of tools, plant and equipment and of workshop areas
  • Maintain accurate and up to date records of works undertaken, including job sheets and timesheets and other required paperwork
  • To be responsible for any assigned maintenance checks, reporting defects or issues to the line manager as soon as possible
  • Be flexible to carry out tasks within other areas of the company as and when required
  • Be available and responsible for emergency calls during and out of working hours for any work as instructed

Core skills

Candidates are required to demonstrate that they possess the following core skills:

  • Welding/grinding experience or qualifications
  • Using fractions and measurements for successfully cutting, sizing and placing pipes, which will prevent future leaks and safety issues
  • Have skills and knowledge relevant to the job
  • Attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of relevant systems, operating industry tools, equipment and processes
  • Good understanding of relevant regulations and procedures including Health and Safety requirements
  • The ability to work on their own, and make decisions relevant to the successful outcome and conclusion of the equipment servicing, repair and test processes
  • Be I.T. literate and have good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
